This is how we came about starting

 Smith's Vacation Cottages

In 2004 Bob and Rita Smith fell in love with a small 2 acre parcel of land situated in the elbow of McCarty Drive and 300 yards from the edge of a pretty and private cove on Clarks Hill Lake. The parcel contained a small pond, an old house and a side lot with an old trailer.  Surrounded by Corp of Engineer land where Bob could hunt, and a half mile from a boat launch ramp, it was Bob’s dream come true.  Bob promised Rita he would remodel the house to her liking and in the meantime, they replaced the old trailer with a new 3 bedroom 2 bath mobile home.  A year later later they were able to buy another 2 acres with a home and garage which Bob quickly turned into his shop.  Bob was then ready to move out of the original house and start the process of remodeling. By the summer of 2006 the remodeled home was ready to be reoccupied.  It now had enough space for both Bob and Rita and their stuff.  This allowed us to turn the other two dwellings into vacation cottages.  Rita has enjoyed furnishing them with treasures and artwork found in the shops of McCormick County.  

We enjoy our little corner of paradise.  We know that the Lord has blessed us and we are happy to share those blessings with those who are looking for a quiet place to retreat from the world and enjoy the beauty of nature.  We enjoy listening to the sound of the country critters on a warm summer night, and smell the sweet smell of honeysuckle and various other blossoms through the beautiful Spring. 

The Lord continues to bless us and word of mouth has brought us many return visitors.  We are located between two large campgrounds; The Corp of Engineers campground at Modoc and Hamilton Branch State Park.  These two parks have camping facilities but do not offer lodging for those without their own RV’s or camp equipment.  Many families enjoy coming to the lake in groups which require supplemental housing and our cottages offer them a solution.  In 2009 we were able to add a picnic pavilion.  This allows large families to either rent both cottages or combine cottage rental with camping friends and have a lighted shelter place for fish fries or picnic dinners.  The picnic pavilion is lighted and is next to the pond where you can catch catfish and brim without needing a fishing license.  Bob enjoys helping our guest with their various needs and tips on fishing and hunting.  On many weekends the demand for the cottages exceeds our ability meet the needs so we are hoping to add to our inventory in the next season or two.  In the Spring of 2011 we acquired another acre nearby which allows us to have a private boat dock on the lake.  We have obtained a boat permit and later in 2011  Bob will be building a boat dock for use by our guests.  We have a private path  from our property thru Corp. land to the boat dock.  This path can be used by golf carts and we try to have a golf cart available for rent.

Come fish in our pond, or go fishing or boating on the Lake.  In hunting season Bob can set you up in a deer stand within walking distance of the cabin.   For golfers we can make reservations for you at Hickory Knob or either of the two Savannah Lakes Resorts.  Since we are in the Vacation business be have also acquired a good bit of timeshare inventory and can make reservations at luxury resorts in high demand areas such as Disneyworld, Daytona Beach, Aruba, Hawaii, Myrtle Beach, Gatlingburg, Pigeon Forge, Hershey Pa, Williamsburg, Va., and Key West.  There are actually over 250 resorts in our vacation club network so if you will give us advance time to make reservations we can tailor a vacation to your particular needs.  I sometimes book vacations at high demand times in my favorite resorts and offer specials on them which you can find posted on our “Other Resorts” page.
